PU leather and texture cases — colour variation, stated plainly
Texture cases sell on how they look and how they feel, and they carry the highest perceived value of any material here. They also carry one problem no amount of advance sampling fully solves.
A colour match is a range, not a point. We would rather you understand that now than discover it in your third container.
Colour variation between batches, stated plainly
PU leather is a coated textile or polymer. The colour is achieved through the coating, and coating consistency depends on the dye lot, the application thickness and the curing conditions in the plant that day.
In practice this means: the case you approve at sample stage and the case in your third container will not be a perfect match.
The variation is usually subtle and most buyers never notice it in isolation. It becomes visible in two situations — side-by-side stock from different production runs, and photographs of old and new stock together, which is exactly what happens on a product listing.
Three practical responses, in order of how well they work
| Approach | Why it works |
|---|---|
| 1 · Buy deeper | The variation matters less if all your stock comes from one production run. If you are restocking repeatedly, ask whether we can keep you on the same dye lot. |
| 2 · Specify a range, not a point | Give a Pantone reference plus an acceptable tolerance. A supplier who works only to the point value and cannot discuss tolerance is not going to help when a batch runs slightly warm. |
| 3 · Lean into it | Slight variation between units is normal in coated materials, and buyers of genuine leather goods accept it. Say so on your listing rather than hoping nobody notices. |
They avoid it because discussing it makes them look unable to control their own production. But it is the real, defining risk of this material — if you do not say it, the buyer will find it in three months and file it as a quality problem. Saying it first turns you into the supplier who warned them.
Which "leather" are you actually buying
Three different products get grouped under this heading, and they behave differently.
| Type | What it is | How it ages | Positioning |
|---|---|---|---|
| PU leather | Coated synthetic, most common | Surface can scuff and, at the edges of a coated area, begin to show the substrate beneath after heavy use | Best value at this price point. Say "PU leather", never "leather" alone |
| Tech fabric | Woven textile with a coating, or a technical weave | Wears at edges and corners first; the weave stays intact longer than a coated surface | Reads as modern and technical. Pairs well with magnetic and cooling designs |
| Genuine leather | Animal hide | Develops patina, which many buyers prefer; edges darken | Multiples of the price. Only if you can support the material claim honestly |
Describe PU leather as PU leather. Describing a synthetic coating simply as "leather" is a material misdescription, and in some markets it is a regulated claim. It also generates returns from buyers who expected genuine hide — a cost that lands on you, not on us.
Debossing on textured surfaces
Embossing and debossing look best on texture materials — this is where the effect is worth paying for. Two constraints:
- Depth is limited on coated surfaces, because pushing too hard cracks the coating.
- On deeply grained materials the logo may not read cleanly unless the deboss depth exceeds the grain depth.
Laser engraving is usually the more legible option on grain, at the cost of the tactile effect. We will produce both and let you compare rather than recommend one blind.
Screen appearance versus the physical product
Dark, textured cases look noticeably lighter in photographs than in hand, because matte surfaces diffuse light differently under studio lighting and phone cameras.
Buyers who order from a photo and receive the product sometimes read that as a quality problem even when the goods are correct.
Photograph texture cases in diffused light with something for scale in frame. We provide product photography on request for exactly this reason.
Product examples
A representative sample from our leather and texture line. Reference images rather than a fixed catalogue — tell us the colours and models you need and we will confirm what is available.

We hold a substantially larger leather and texture programme than the sample above — more grains, more colourways and more constructions than are shown here. The images on this page are illustrative of material and finish, not a catalogue. Tell us the colour and model you need and we will send the matching set, photographed in diffused light as described above.
Some sample imagery in this category carries printed graphics or characters supplied by third parties. Those designs are not ours to license and are not part of what we offer.
What we produce is your artwork or your licensed material — see section 6.3 of our Terms. If you send us a reference image, we can build something with the same functional intent and your own branding, but we will not reproduce a protected design, character or trade mark.
Colours shown are illustrative. Screen appearance differs from the physical product on textured materials — ask for sample photography before approving a colour.

Ordering
From 10 pieces per model on stocked colours, within a 1,000-piece total order. Pantone-matched runs are quoted case by case.
Custom packaging on leather lines often makes more commercial sense than custom colour. Packaging changes how the product reads without carrying the batch-variation risk — and on this material the risk is the main thing holding buyers back from a Pantone run.
